– OBD errors “Shift rod N displacement sensor”
– Dealer/store diagnosed “distance (or position) sensor error”

The distance/displacement sensor is an important part of the Porsche PDK gearbox. Its function is to tell the control unit where all 4 shift rods are currently located. The gearbox control unit constantly communicates with the sensor package to ensure that gear changes have been made correctly. Once the sensor fails/dies, the control unit cannot continue. So it continues to drive in the currently selected gear, no longer shifts, and after the car stops, it does not let it drive at all.

Description

Repair your 7DT45 and 7DT70 Porsche PDK transmission / gearbox instead of buying a new one!

The distance/position sensor failure is usually indicated by 1731-1735 and other 17xx errors. Previously, this type of error required a new and very expensive PDK transmission, but now you can simply replace the faulty acceleration sensor.

OBD error code:

  • P1731
  • P1732
  • P1733
  • P1734
  • P1735
  • P17Dx

Fits Porsche models

  • 911 (997, 991)
  • Cayman and Boxster models since 2009 (981 718)

Professional installation by qualified workshop required;

NOTE: The sensor cannot be purchased for DIY installation as replacing the PDK distance/position sensor is a very complicated procedure and there is no official factory PDK repair manual. PIWIS records (VAL file) including VIN number and details for each installation must be documented and submitted to meet sensor manufacturer and warranty requirements. Please note that the factory manual does not contain any instructions for disassembly and assembly of the PDK transmissions; Instructions and support are not provided with the replacement sensor, but there are threads on the Rennlist Porsche forums that can help you (see links below). You will need to re-use (solder) all harness, plug, and speed sensors.

Not available to end users; this sensor can only be purchased and installed through a workshop that is qualified for the installation and has access to a Porsche PIWIS diagnosis system.
