Build a safari car?
You need these Safari / Rally height front styles. This is the correct way to raise your 964/993. You get increased height along with increased ground clearance and suspension travel while maintaining proper suspension geometry.
Elephant Racing has designed these uprights with features to solve the problems that arise when the car is lifted with standard wheel styles.
Wheel bearing position
The wheel bearing has been lowered 20 mm. This increases the car and provides several advantages at the same time.
- Geometry correction, the angle of the lower wishbone is returned to the optimal range
- Ground clearance has been increased, everything has been raised, including the lower wishbone, stabilizer bar and tie rod
- Tire scrubbing is reduced, improving directional stability
- Ride height is increased without compromising rebound (droop)
Strut mount
The strut mounting parts are raised
This keeps the strut in place and balances compression and rebound travel. Use Safari Uprights with standard 993/964 turbo front struts, or extended struts if you're lifting aggressively.
Raising the car with standard uprights only lengthens the strut and compromises rebound, at the expense of ride quality, handling and ground contact on uneven terrain. There is even the risk of strut damage from “topping out”.
Bump steer correction
The steering knuckle is modeled after the RS upright for steering angle correction. Use our Safari uprights in combination with tie rods type GT2.
Compatible with RS swaybar
Our safari uprights fit perfectly with the adjustable RS sway bar. With a taller ride height comes a higher center of gravity and mostly non-stock spring rates. We recommend using the adjustable RS swaybars to fine-tune roll stiffness and balance. The droplink mounts on our Safari styles are the correct height to fit the RS swaybar when using standard droplinks.
C2/C4 compatible
Our Safari Uprights are compatible with both models.
Big Brake Compatible
Safari Uprights accept calipers that improve stopping power otherwise compromised when mounting heavy and oversized tires. These require radial mounting bolts as used on 964 Turbo and 993 calipers including “Big Reds”. Cars with 964 C2 and C4 axial-mount calipers must be upgraded to radial-mount calipers. The larger brakes control the rotating mass and increased torque of larger diameter tires.
