About Mahle Motorsport

Mahle Motorsport and LN Engineering combine their technical know-how to deliver Porsche engine components of the highest quality. Their pistons and cylinders are designed to deliver extreme performance.

Mahle Motorsports

Over the past 90 years, Porsche and Mahle have enjoyed a strong working relationship. Together, these companies have developed some of the most competitive engines on the market, along with some of the best sports car engines available. Mahle used the experience gained from its OEM relationship with Porsche and developed a range of performance and racing Porsche pistons and cylinder kits.

These Porsche piston and cylinder kits are designed for high-performance applications and are modern adaptations of the original Porsche piston and cylinder kits, as well as aftermarket kits. Users may notice some visual differences in the components due to modern materials and manufacturing techniques. These differences are intentional and beneficial to the performance, durability, and longevity of Mahle's aftermarket parts.

Porsche pistons by Mahle

Mahle Porsche pistons are machined from forgings with narrower, shorter skirts to reduce weight and friction. They are then double coated, with phosphate and also with Mahle’s proprietary Grafal skirt coating. The phosphate is a dry film lubricant designed to protect the pin bores from galling and the ring grooves from micro welding. The Grafal anti-friction skirt coating is designed to reduce drag, wear and noise. The kits come with ring sets that feature advanced coatings and are made from strong, durable materials, allowing for thinner, reduced friction piston rings for increased horsepower. These modern materials and design accommodations allow these ring sets to provide more consistent contact with the cylinders, resulting in better sealing and improved oil control. Mahle offers replacement and performance pistons for most air- and water-cooled Porsche engines.

Mahle's Porsche air-cooled cylinders

The cylinders produced with Mahle Nikasil in the air-cooled Motorsport kits are produced and machined to original equipment tolerances.

LN engineering and Mahle Motorsport

Where original Mahle cylinders are not available, LN Engineering supplies its Nickies aluminium cylinders together with Mahle Motorsport pistons. They are designed to provide improved performance, durability and service life for air-cooled Porsche 356 and 911, 964 and 993 engines. Some applications are available as a slip-in or machine-in design.

The insert cylinders are simply a larger replacement of the internal bore, while retaining the standard housing and cylinder head registers. With the machined Mahle cylinders, the engine housing (and sometimes the cylinder heads) must be machined to a larger bore diameter to accept their larger journal diameter. The larger journal diameter is preferred for extreme applications, such as heavily boosted turbocharged engines or engines for competition use.
The nearly 100-year-old partnership between Porsche and Mahle can enhance your driving experience and keep your engine performing at its best. Likewise, LN Engineering’s 20 years of experience in producing Nickies cylinders and a close relationship with Mahle Motorsport means an ever-increasing range of piston and cylinder kit options to rebuild and upgrade your Porsche engine.
